NCERT Solutions For Class 2 English Chapter 19 - Strange Talk

The poet L.E.Yates in the poem Strange Talk describes how each animal wants to talk; instead, they can only make sounds. For instance, the frog croaks instead of saying “Good morning”, & the duck says “quack-quack” instead of responding to “How do you do?”. The poet wonders if all the animals tried to talk all at once like the way little girls and boys talk, what kind of noise would it make.

Answer :

Once upon a time, there were two birds and a tortoise. The three of them were very good friends. The tortoise loved to talk a lot. One day they decided to go to a new place across the river. But since the tortoise walks very slowly, the birds decided to carry him across the river with a wooden stick. The birds told the tortoise to catch the stick with his mouth, and they would carry him by holding the stick. Thus, the birds began to fly up in the sky by holding each end of the stick. Suddenly, the tortoise opened his mouth to talk about something, but he fell into the river. The birds couldn’t help the tortoise. The talkative tortoise called for help, but there was no one to hear him, and the river carried away the tortoise to a place far away from his friends.
