(क) लेखक बैडमिंटन के चैंपियन थे। लेकिन एक दिन उन्होंने स्कूल के ग्राउंड में ध्यानचंद को हॉकी खेलते हुए देखा और उनसे प्रेरित होकर, वे हॉकी खेलने लगे।
(ख) उस वक्त भारत को आजाद हुए कुछ ही दिन बीते थे। इंग्लैंड पर जीत सिर्फ खेल में ही जीत नहीं थी परन्तु पूर्व गुलाम की अपने क्रूर शासक के ऊपर जीत थी। जिन्होंने हम पर कई वर्षों तक राज किया। उसे उसी के घर में जाकर हराना मानसिक तौर पर बहुत गर्व का कार्य था इसलिए सबकी आँखों में आँसू थे।
(ग) खिलाड़ियों में खेलने की भावना अडिग होनी महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि बिना अडिग इच्छा के वह अपना खेल ठीक से नहीं खेल पाएगा। यह जज़्बा इसलिए ज़रूरी है ताकि खेल का स्तर न गिरे।

(क) लेखक 60 साल की बात करने के लिए कुछ वर्ष पूर्व जाना चाहता है।
(ख) हम भी तीन वर्ष पूर्व की हिन्दी को याद करेंगे। हिंदी सीखने के लिए सर्वप्रथम हमें हिंदी भाषा के वर्णों को लिखना सिखाया गया। फिर हमने इसे याद किया। इसके पश्चात हमने हिंदी की मात्राएँ सीखीं। इसे सीखने के बाद हमें हिंदी लिखना, पढ़ना और बोलना आ गया।
(ग) पिछली किसी बात को बार - बार रटा तो नहीं जाता पर, यदि उसके संदर्भ में की गई बात कहनी होती है तो उसे याद अवश्य किया जाता है क्योंकि उसको याद किए बिना हम उसे पूरी तरह नहीं कह सकते। किसी विषय पर सोच-विचार करने के बाद हम उस विषय को हम हमेशा के लिए याद कर सकते हैं। इसके पश्चात् हम उसे नहीं भूलते।
